On the eve !
Well it’s the eve before the race start tomorrow and we have moved from Canmore to Banff. Was good to get a good ride on the bikes fully loaded- though they are definitely feeling weighty enough! It has been a lovely week hanging out in Canmore and getting gear ready, such a beautiful spot.
Canmore reminds me of Wanaka - chilled out, sporty little place while Banff is like the Queenstown big sister - full of tourists and hustle and bustle.
The nerves are simmering just under the surface ready to explode without warning. Trying to enjoy the the moment and not get too caught up in the what if’s ! We’ve talked to so many people about their experiences on the divide and so much advice about the wildlife. We have whistles, and bear spray each and just need to get started now, the anticipation is crazy.
We are planning on camping to two cabins along the route before getting to Fernie on day three which. Means packing a lot of food and trying to figure out if what we have is enough !

The ride up to Banff was very scenic and we smelt them saw a beaver dam so that was pretty cool.
We have spent the afternoon having our first lunch out of the trip - a cool burger bar with a great relaxed atmosphere and then getting some last minute food to take with us tomorrow- fruit and some real food for lunch and dinner - we got as far as a slice of frittata and hopefully will grab a bagel to take for lunch.

Bye for now !

The mountains surrounded us on the ride up the valley and there were a lot of bikers using the trail which is about 20kms long from Canmore to Banff. We came across two guys starting tomorrow with us from Seattle and St Paul so was nice to chat. They have two weeks and were just going to see how far they got.

We are staying at a cute little cabin at hostel and camping ground for the night.
Tonight we are meeting up with some of the other kiwis and Ozzie’s on the trip so be nice to meet a few more riders.
